Denver Ice Dam Fix?
An article published in the Denver Post discusses ways to stop leaks from ice dams on roofs. The article describes the many conditions that encourage ice dams to form and some cures. Basically, ice dams form when roof temperatures fluctuate between freezing and above freezing on a roof. The frozen area prevents the unfrozen water from draining, and this causes standing water to seep underneath the roofing materials and cause water damage.
SERVPRO® of Denver West responds to water damage emergencies often in Cherry Creek and other areas of Denver and offers these tips from the Denver Post article to cool down the roof and minimize the occurrence of ice dam formation:
- Install insulation or more insulation in the attic floor and keep it out of the eaves and soffit vents.
- Ventilate the attic by installing a ridge vent along the entire length of the roof’s ridge.
- Install soffit vents on the soffit on each side of the house.
