Christmas Tree Safety Tips for Denver?

Holidays Can Be Dangerous
There is nothing as precious as seeing children getting excited for the holiday season. It brings out the kid in all of us, and their enthusiasm is catching! One year I made a stocking for my dog, Barclay, and when we came down to open our presents, he jumped up and snatched his stocking and raced under the bed, staying there the rest of the day enjoying his Christmas fare!
SERVPRO® of Denver West responds to lots of fire damage emergencies in the Denver area this time of year, and offers these tips from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) website to help prevent a Christmas tree fire from starting:
Lighting the Tree
- Use lights that have the label of a recognized testing laboratory. Some lights are only for indoor or outdoor use.
- Replace any strings of lights with worn or broken cords or loose bulb connections. Read the manufacturer’s instructions for the number of light strands to connect safely.
- Never use lit candles to decorate the tree.
- Always turn off the Christmas tree lights before leaving home or going to bed.
